Born and raised in Abuja, Fausat, who hails from Kogi State and is of Ebira heritage, shares her journey, aspirations, life lessons, and the dreams driving her towards building a successful fashion brand.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Abdulrahman Fausat Ohunene. I am from Kogi State, of the Ebira tribe, and I was born and raised in Abuja.
Tell us about your educational background.
I attended Nomadic Primary School for my primary education and Government Day Secondary School for my secondary education. I later obtained my National Diploma (ND) in Business Administration from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
In the next five years, I see myself owning a standard and well-established fashion house.
What was growing up like for you?
Growing up, and even up until this moment, has been a good experience for me because my loved ones have always been supportive and stood by me.
What challenges have you faced in life and in your profession?
As a fashion designer, getting clients can sometimes be challenging, as most of my customers come through referrals. The rising cost of fabrics is also a major challenge, as it sometimes forces me to reduce my profit margins.
What are some of the most important life lessons you have learned?
In everything I do, I put Allah first. I have also learned to learn from my mistakes and always maintain a positive mindset.
What were your aspirations growing up?
Growing up, I was inspired by the desire to become independent. I also developed a strong passion for creating new dresses, which eventually led me to specialize in fashion design.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day usually begins with checking messages from clients. I typically work from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
What is your most cherished gift, and who was it from?
The greatest gift I cherish is the opportunity to be educated, which was made possible by my parents.
What are the top five things on your wish list?
– To own a standard fashion house.
– To be recognized as one of the best fashion designers across different countries.
– To travel to Dubai for a vacation.
– To import a variety of fabrics for different designs.
– To have several branches of my fashion brand.
What kind of music is always on replay?
Afrobeats.
What is the first app you check in the morning or before bedtime?
The Wema App.
What is your favourite fashion item?
A fitted gown, because I love creating silhouettes that flatter different body types.
What would you not be caught wearing?
A tattoo.
What is your dream travel destination and why?
Canada, because I would love to experience its snowy winter.
How do you relax?
I relax by taking a nap and enjoying quiet moments.

I would tell my younger self: “Pray, work hard, and be consistent.”
