As schools resume, some parents are crying out over the type of textbooks they are required to buy.
The textbooks available for some primary schools are books pupils have to write directly inside. They serve as both reading and writing materials, meaning another child cannot use the same book after it has been written in.
In previous years, textbooks were mainly for reading and studying. A child could use the book, keep it, and the younger sibling could still use the same material the following year.
But these days, parents are expected to buy the same textbooks again every year, irrespective of whether they have younger children who could have reused the books.
The big question is:
Is this a new government policy on education, or are some private schools using this as a tactic to exploit parents?
