At least six people have reportedly been killed after gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus in Plateau State.
The incident occurred at Dungus Junction in Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area, while the passengers were travelling towards Jos.
According to reports, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle after the driver reportedly stopped at the junction to drop off some passengers. Several passengers were hit during the attack, leaving the bus riddled with bullets.
Two other passengers were reportedly injured and rushed to hospital for medical attention.
The attackers were initially described in reports as suspected Fulani herdsmen, although the Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the identities of the attackers at the time of reporting.
Community sources said some of the victims were from Bukuru, while one of those reportedly killed was identified as a member of Operation Rainbow.
The attack has renewed concerns over the safety of travellers on roads across Plateau State, particularly at night.
