One of the major challenges currently facing Bwari Area Council is waste management, as the number of illegal refuse dumping sites continues to raise concern across the council.
Several parts of the area are gradually becoming an eyesore, making the environment less conducive for residents, motorists and other road users. While the Bwari Area Council and the FCT Administration have important roles to play in ensuring effective waste management, residents also have a responsibility to learn how and where to properly dispose of their refuse.
One of the locations currently affected is along Dutse Road, shortly before the Police Signboard Junction. The area has become increasingly uncomfortable for motorists and pedestrians due to the large volume of refuse dumped there and the offensive odour emanating from the site.

Although the absence of a proper and accessible waste management structure may contribute to indiscriminate dumping, disposing of refuse along major roads remains an unhealthy and unacceptable practice.
The Bwari Area Council administration, under the leadership of Chairman Joshua Ishaku Musa, had earlier commenced the clearing of drainages and other refuse dumping sites across parts of the council. Residents would also expect the administration to extend similar efforts to other areas, including Dutse, Kubwa, Mpape and surrounding communities.
Effective waste management requires a collective effort from the government, residents and relevant environmental agencies. While authorities must provide adequate waste disposal and collection systems, residents must also play their part by avoiding indiscriminate dumping.
