Once regarded as the heartbeat of commercial activities in Bwari Area Council, the old Kogo Road now tells a story of neglect, economic hardship and unfulfilled promises. A recent visit by BwariTimes to the project site revealed that the road, which has been under construction for approximately three years, appears to have been abandoned. Throughout the inspection, there was no visible presence of construction workers, heavy machinery or active engineering work, raising fresh concerns among residents and business owners about the future of the project.
A Once Vibrant Commercial Hub
Before the construction began, Kogo Road served as the principal route into Bwari before the newer road was developed. The corridor was known for its bustling markets, roadside businesses, transport activities and steady flow of commuters from early morning until late night.
Today, the situation is remarkably different.
Many shops remain closed, several business premises have been vacated, and the once lively environment has become unusually quiet. Business owners say the prolonged construction has significantly reduced customer traffic, forcing many entrepreneurs to relocate to more accessible areas.
With the road remaining largely impassable in sections, commercial activities have dwindled, leaving many who depend on daily patronage struggling to survive.
Residents Face Daily Challenges
The impact extends beyond businesses.
Residents told BwariTimes that transportation has become increasingly difficult, with many commercial drivers avoiding the road altogether due to its poor condition. As a result, some families have chosen to relocate to areas with better road access and more reliable transportation.
The declining population in the area has further reduced economic activity, creating a cycle that continues to affect both livelihoods and local development.
Calls for Government Intervention
Business owners who continue to operate along the Kogo Road corridor are appealing to the government and relevant authorities to prioritise the completion of the project.
They expressed concern over the financial losses they have endured over the past three years and said completing the road would restore economic activity and improve access to the community.
Some residents also expressed optimism that the newly elected Chairman of Bwari Area Council will give attention to the road and work with the appropriate government agencies to ensure the project is completed.
More Than Just a Road
