Police Bust Fake Diplomatic Number Plate Syndicate in Abuja. Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has uncovered a criminal network involved in the production and use of fake diplomatic and government number plates in Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed the development on Friday during a press briefing at the command headquarters. He explained that the fake number plates were allegedly being used by criminals to evade security checks, gain access to restricted areas, and conceal their identities while carrying out illegal activities.

According to the police, investigations also led to the recovery of stolen public infrastructure, including drainage covers, solar-powered street lights, electricity cables, and internet communication cables removed from several parts of the FCT.
Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the vandalism, while those linked to the fake number plate operation are also in police custody awaiting prosecution. Authorities revealed that the manufacturers of the fake plates have been identified and are being tracked outside the FCT.
Police investigations further showed that buyers paid between ₦500,000 and ₦1.7 million to obtain the illegal diplomatic and government number plates.
CP Sanusi urged Abuja residents to report suspicious vehicles displaying diplomatic or official government number plates, stressing that genuine diplomatic plates follow an approved format. He also warned scrap dealers and anyone involved in buying stolen public property that the command will continue to dismantle criminal networks operating within the territory.
