A brief observation within Bwari found that 8 out of 10 ladies randomly approached said they do not wear bras regularly. While this is not a scientific survey and cannot represent all women in Bwari or elsewhere, the responses point to an interesting change in clothing preferences among some young women and leaves us with one question, “Is Bra going out of fashion?”
Here are what some ladies we interviewed had to say:
One lady said:
“I don’t wear because I hate something that tightens my breast. I just like being free.”
Another said:
“I can’t really remember when last I put on a bra. Going without a bra makes me comfortable.”
This working class lady said:
I only wear bra when I am going for serious meetings and official matters. For social gathering and at home, I prefer to go braless, it gives me that freedom and comfort.

Another respondent gave a different reason, saying:
“I really need attention. You know what men want, I just give it to them. I like attention and want to be noticed.”
Women have different reasons for choosing whether or not to wear a bra. For some, it is about comfort. For others, it may be fashion, personal preference or simply feeling more comfortable without one.
Bra wearing appears to be declining among some young women, with comfort, personal preference and fashion trends influencing the choice to go braless.
Whatever the reason, changing fashion trends are influencing how younger generations approach clothing and personal expression.
